meeting eloise

October 22, 2009

We made our third trip to the zoo today (we have season passes!) and invited our friends Keely and Isla. Isla is only 3 weeks older than Seneca and her daddy works with Chandler. The Orangutan exhibit is really well done and there is a great viewing station where the kids can go right up to the glass. There was a big Orangutan hanging out right next to the glass in the corner today, so I sat down and put Seneca right in front to get a good look.

We asked the Zookeeper about this particular Orangutan because she seemed a little different. The Zookeeper introduced us to Eloise, the oldest of the Orangutans at the LA Zoo at 41 years old. She has been raised exclusively by humans and has cerebral palsy and is mentally retarded. She most likely would not have survived on her own in the wild. She was very sweet.

(I am really behind in the blogging. I am going to try to catch up on the last few weeks as well as all the posts I have from Seneca's first 3 months. Thanks for your patience!!)
