an UPdate

30 January 2010

I am behind with "a few" posts (wink), we only took "a few" photos over the holidays (wink, wink) . . .

But, in the meantime, while I get my act together, I wanted to post a little movie illustrating one of the reasons I seem to have less time to blog.

dim sum with the Fong's

24 January 2010

We went for Dim Sum with our good friends, The Fongs.
We went to NBC Seafood in Monterey Park
(which is the REAL Chinatown in LA).
This was Seneca's first experience at Dim Sum.
But, since she doesn't seem to be too interested in solid food yet (sigh),
she didn't try anything.
Maybe next time.
We had fun anyway!

blowing raspberries

12 December 2009

I think this movie will speak for itself.

She takes it very seriously - we don't do anything halfway around here!

touch a shark, CHECK!

29 November, 2009

We took Seneca to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach on Sunday
and met up with Aunt Courtney, Uncle Ed and Cousin Braden.
Seneca was completely enthralled with the exhibits.
It was really cool to watch her experience it.
She even touched a little shark in the Stingray/Shark Lagoon exhibit!

thankful

26 November, 2009

Seneca's first Thanksgiving - it was a really nice day. We had dinner with Aunt Courtney, Uncle Ed and Cousin Braden (Aunt Courtney cooked). And, Seneca has been enjoying a lot of extra time with Daddy now that his competition is over and he isn't working so late every night!

ps. Happy Birthday MaMa!

5-MO!

18 November, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have a jumper! Daddy took the day off today after a long, hard 4 1/2 months of work on a competition (he started it 2 weeks after Seneca was born). The first order of business was to install Seneca's latest activity: the Jolly Jumper - a super fantastic hand-me-down from the Van Glabeeks!! It is a huge understatement to say that she REALLY, REALLY likes it.

These photos and movie were taken just a few minutes after we put her in it the first time. It only took her a few seconds to figure out what to do. And, away she goes . . .

ps. while these photos do not speak highly of my photography skills (I was just using our little point and shoot and no flash) - I liked them for their sense of movement, anyway.
pss. so far, her longest jumping session has been over 34 minutes - now, that is a work-out!

psss. I know, the camera has to be HORIZONTAL for movies. It is hard to teach my photography brain new tricks.

By the way, happy 5 months to Seneca!

sax family trick-or-treaters 2009

My cousin Jackie posted a photo of all the Sax great grandchildren on facebook (well, almost all) and I just couldn't resist fixing it up in photoshop to include Seneca . . . she was there in spirit!

p.s. also missing from photo: Audrey, Drew, Saxton and Hayden.

the halloween costume

Seneca dressed up as Bob n' Beep, the UglyDoll, this year for halloween.

MaMa Freiberg and Aunt Mimi made her costume.
Isn't it fantastic? (and, of course, Aunt Mimi had to get the pink in there, right?)

hangin' with my pumpkin in my halloween socks

first halloween, first pumpkin (no carving this year), first halloween socks (thanks Aunt Sara and Uncle Byron!) . . . first costume pics coming soon!

the Bunny Patch

21 October 2009

Today was Seneca's first "full" day of daycare (sob, sob). She did great. And, I got a lot of stuff done. And, when I picked her up after 7 hours, she was wiped-out tired. Then, later, when I got her home and gave her a full inspection, I realized she had a runny nose, a bit of a cough and a slight fever of 99.5 degrees (I know, I know, but give me a break - she made it 4 months and 2 days without getting sick).

Of course, my mom pointed out that she probably caught this "cold" before today, but that is not the point. . . . you gotta love the irony, right? Besides, she spent (2) "break-in" days (for one hour each) with all the snot-nose kids at daycare the week before . . . so she probably caught it then. HA!

By the way, her daycare is called "The Bunny Patch". It is a small family daycare with about 9 kids and 2 teachers. There is another little girl there that is 5 1/2 months old, so Seneca will have a little playmate. We are sending her one day a week for now.

I will leave you with some photos at daycare - technically, these were taken on her "real" first day - the break-in day on October 13.

giving the big boys the "don't mess with me stink-eye" (faces have been hidden to protect the innocent)

hanging out on the playmate with the other little girl - they will be best buds in no time

LA Zoo trip (the one when I was awake)

This was actually Seneca's second trip to the LA Zoo. She slept through the first visit on July 9 with MaMa and PaPa Freiberg (and we also don't have any photos : ( ).

We managed to get a couple of photos on this visit (we went with Aunt Courtney, Uncle Ed and Cousin Braden). They aren't great because we had her all "suited up" to combat the sun since she can't use any sunscreen until at least 6 months old. And, believe me, this little redhead will turn into a full-on lobster if we aren't careful! We got a season pass, so I promise we will get some better pictures in the future!

who's that baby in the mirror?

Seneca discovers the MIRROR! (and her new best friend!)

01 September, 2009

meeting "Nene" Ahrens

"Nene" Ahrens was finally able to travel to California for a visit after recovering from heart surgery. We were very happy to see her in such great shape! Nene stayed for a month and split her time between her TWO new grandchildren - Braden Thomas and Seneca Caroline! (Braden is Chandler's sister's new baby and he is 6 weeks older than Seneca - they live in Long Beach).

SLAM!

aka: The St. Louis Art Museum (but much more fun to call it SLAM!)

To celebrate cousin Nina and Gini's last days of summer, we visited the SLAM with Aunt Sara, cousins Nina, Gini and Trey and MaMa Freiberg. We had a great time reviewing the Native American, Egyptian and African Art exhibits!

13 August, 2009

first visit to the St.Louis Zoo

We went to the St. Louis Zoo with Angie, Ella and Theo Eckert, Allison and Liam Mistlebauer and MaMa Freiberg. The brown bears were the best and the penguin exhibit was freezing!

my first trip to Chinatown,

which included my first performance art . . .

(both of which I experienced asleep, of course!)

PaPa took me to Disneyland!

Well, actually, we only made it to Downtown Disney, but I already got my "ears" and I am looking forward to my first trip to the park next year!

p.s. The "ears" happen to be part of the outfit we got for Seneca's first "Build-a-Bear" stuffed bunny that Aunt Mimi insisted on getting for her. We quickly realized that the outfit would also fit Seneca (at 3 weeks old) and VOILA! Seneca had her very own set of Mickey ears!
